Data Sourcing Specialist - Hedge Fund

We are seeking an experienced Data Sourcing Specialist to join a dynamic team at a leading quantitative investment firm. This role is critical in identifying, evaluating, and acquiring unique and high-value alternative datasets to enhance our research and trading strategies. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in data acquisition, vendor negotiations, and an ability to source niche and non-traditional datasets that drive alpha generation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify and assess alternative datasets that can contribute to quantitative research and trading strategies.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with data vendors, brokers, and other third-party providers.

  • Lead commercial negotiations, structuring agreements that optimize cost and exclusivity while mitigating legal and compliance risks.

  • Conduct due diligence on potential data sources, evaluating data quality, coverage, latency, and overall suitability.

  • Collaborate closely with researchers, portfolio managers, and engineers to integrate acquired datasets into the investment process.

  • Monitor industry trends and emerging data sources to ensure the firm remains at the forefront of data-driven investment strategies.

  • Ensure all data acquisition activities align with regulatory, legal, and ethical standards.

Key Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in data sourcing, acquisition, or alternative data strategy within a hedge fund, asset management firm, or leading data vendor.

  • Extensive experience sourcing niche and alternative datasets, with a strong understanding of market data landscapes.

  • Proven track record in negotiating complex commercial agreements with data vendors and third-party providers.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to assess data relevance and quality.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across research, compliance, and technology teams.

  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations, licensing structures, and compliance considerations.

  • A strong network within the alternative data ecosystem is a plus.
